Job interview: the questions interviewers ask

A job interview checks whether you can do the work, work with the team and communicate clearly. Most rounds mix questions about you, your experience and how you handle situations.

Every interview asks different questions. Use the examples below to see the kind of question to expect, then learn the idea behind each one instead of memorising answers.

Questions interviewers commonly ask

  1. Tell me about yourself.
  2. Describe a time you solved a difficult problem.
  3. What is your biggest strength, with an example?
  4. Tell me about a time you disagreed with a colleague.
  5. Why do you want this role?
These are practice prompts written by us to show the kinds of questions asked. They are not real exam papers.

What to learn and practise

Common questions

How long should an answer be?

Aim for one to two minutes. Long enough for an example, short enough to stay clear.

How do I answer if I have no experience?

Use projects, study, volunteering or part-time work. What matters is showing how you think and act.
